But I set out with an open mind and went to see what it could do for me. DreamWeaver popular in the US is a system of physical and emotional healing which is starting to make an impact here in the UK. For some it has encouraged a dramatic change – could it help my nagging back and shoulder problems? Essentially, it uses music to heal. You lie on a bed which vibrates beneath you to music being played around you. It can home in on different body parts. DreamWeaver us being used to help treat depression, physical ailments and emotional problems. Benedick Howard, who runs DreamWeaver sessions from his London home, says the restorative nature of music is widely documented. “Music is very healing – that’s well known” he says. “This treatment helps with a whole gamut of problems. Its about what you really want to create in your life. I’m just the facilitator, helping people to do that.” The DreamWeaver treatment starts with an overall analysis of your wellbeing. I was asked how I felt about myself on a scale of 1 – 10, to rank the impact of my problems on my life and similar questions about help I felt I needed. I was given a Luscher color test, a well-known system used to test emotions and personality traits according to colors you like, to see where I might need work. After about 10 minutes of a DreamWeaver treatment I felt so relaxed, that if someone had come in yelling “fire” I would have struggled to get up and flee! I felt drawn down into the bed and anchored there through the music, as if my body was asleep but my mind was not. Mentally, I was also able to switch off completely, both by listening to the music surrounding me and through concentrating on my breathing. The music I was played through the DreamWeaver was largely orchestral. I panicked a bit. I thought the neighbours might complain. It seemed loud as the beats pulsed through me. But it didn’t feel jarring or intrusive. Instead, different sections of music played under alternating parts of my body. I could feel my muscles twitching and releasing as I gradually wound down. I badly damaged my shoulder in a car accident eight years ago. Ever since I have needed chiropractic care and massage to cope with the ongoing pain. For me, the DreamWeaver brought as much relief as both of those well know forms of healing. The pain was reduced and the muscles also felt relaxed for several days afterwards. Movement through my neck and back felt much freer. DreamWeaver specialist Benedick Howard was an engineer before he turned his hand to healing. He explained the metal dodecahedron you lie under affects the way the music moves. After my session I was reassessed. The marks I gave about my wellbeing were all higher than before the treatment. Benedick Howard travels internationally for individual, group and corporate:
